We are at BIO-Europe 2025!

If you want to find out more about the developments and innovations in Mainz, meet our Team-Member Dr. Evelyn Rossmann @BIO-Europe 2025.

In recent years, Mainz has developed into one of the most exciting locations for life sciences and biotechnology in Europe. With internationally successful companies, an excellent university landscape and a strong regional network, the state capital of Rhineland-Palatinate offers ideal conditions for research, innovation and start-ups.

At the heart of this development is the new Life Science Campus Mainz. Covering 12 hectares of attractive development area, a location is being created where companies, start-ups and research institutions can grow equally. Whether it's a laboratory, office or start-up centre, the campus creates the ideal conditions for research, start-ups and growth in one place.

Campus under construction: milestones for research and innovation

The Life Science Campus Mainz is visibly taking shape. The technical development and connection to the transport network has already been completed. The motorways are within easy reach and two tram stops connect the campus to the city centre in just a few minutes.

While other elements – from sustainable transport connections with a car park and bike-share stations to retail, sports, childcare and public parks – are still in the planning stage, the first construction projects are already reaching concrete milestones. Modern laboratory and office buildings are creating space for research, start-ups and innovative collaborations.

Step by step, a campus is growing that brings together science, business and start-ups on an international level.

LAB 2

LAB 2 is already the second laboratory construction project by J. Molitor Immobilien GmbH and G. L. Kayser Immobilien GmbH on the Life Science Campus Mainz. In total, around 9,000 m² of laboratory and office space is being created with flexible design options and an energy-efficient building concept. Completion is planned for the end of 2026.

In addition to modern laboratory and office buildings, you will benefit from well-designed infrastructure, sustainable mobility and a lively environment with retail, sports and leisure facilities as well as childcare.

Perfectly connected: Mainz as a hub for research and business

The Life Science Campus Mainz impresses with its strategically central location in the Rhine-Main region. Germany's largest airport, motorways, railway junctions and vibrant city life are all in the immediate vicinity. This means that companies, start-ups and research institutions benefit from short distances to partners, markets and talent – locally, regionally and globally. The excellent transport links not only support daily commuting, but also facilitate logistics, cooperation and international networking. Whether on the way to international conferences or to regional partners and customers – Mainz connects.

Mainz: An internationally visible life science hub

Mainz combines science, business and innovation in a unique ecosystem. Located directly adjacent to Johannes Gutenberg University, Mainz University Medical Centre and Mainz University of Applied Sciences, companies and start-ups benefit from a highly qualified talent pool and direct access to excellent research and state-of-the-art core facilities. Around 40,000 students are the basis for innovative collaborations and knowledge transfer to the business world.

»There are only a few cities in Germany that can offer a comparable range of medical, pharmaceutical and chemical expertise to Mainz.«

Dr. Rebecca Matthes, Medical Excellence Manager bei AbbVie

The city is also home to internationally successful biotech and life science companies. From established players to up-and-coming start-ups, a dynamic network for growth and innovation is emerging. At the same time, Mainz is strategically located in the Rhine-Main region: Wiesbaden can be reached in 20 minutes, Frankfurt and Darmstadt in 40 minutes, and Heidelberg in 60 minutes. This offers short distances to economic centres, partners and markets.

And Mainz offers more than just economic advantages: carnival, wine, culture, leisure activities and Bundesliga football ensure a high quality of life and an inspiring environment for employees and their families.
